At its heart, Enemy is a return to BULLETSCRIPT’s groove metal roots, but what it represents is so much more. Driven by catchy riffs, energetic solos, and the driving vocals of new frontman, Brett Bruton, the EP is the first, audacious step towards a new era of composition for the band, drawing on a wealth of new learnings and a rekindled enthusiasm for kick-ass metal. Stepping up from the introspection of 2016’s Primordial, Enemy is an explosion of energy, geared to entertain and energize the fans, at home and in the pit.
Composed by BULLETSCRIPT, recorded and mixed by Dean Bailey at Cloud Studios, and mastered by Jocke Skog (The Haunted, Feared), each track on Enemy punches hard and clear, with an overall quality that comfortably rubs shoulders with the international greats. Months were spent in preproduction as each track – Killers, Enemy, and Lacerate – were tweaked to ensure an EP that both pays homage to the band’s history while lighting the fuse to the full-length album planned for late 2019.
Conceptually, the lyrical content of Enemy swings from a critique of the cult of celebrity through to the technological singularity, with some societal dread sewn in between.
BULLETSCRIPT is set to launch the EP’s titular single, ‘Enemy’, through
Metal4Africa.com in conjunction with OneFM on Monday 21stJanuary, with online streaming being made available the following day. The official artwork will be released at Summerfest’19, where limited edition Enemy merch will be available for purchase. This is will mark the first step of a fundraising drive that will take Bulletscript to several venues across the Cape (and perhaps further) as they raise money for a music video, tentatively planned for a mid-year release.
